SGB GRAND FINAL SET
The all-important and extremely dramatic SGB Play-Off Semi-Final leg two settled the battle for this years Grand Final.
Kings Lynn sailed through to the final after a deflated and weakened Belle Vue Aces struggled to overcome the deficit they suffered the previous week. Despite their efforts, the patched up Aces featuring guests Tobiasz Musielak and Fernando Garcia, didn’t hit the ground running at the Adrian Flux Arena. The home track advantage and a full team proved to play a big part in the Stars’ bid to make the SGB Final for the first time in four years, defeating the Manchester side 103-77 on aggregate.
However, the meeting down in Dorset wasn’t as straight forward between the Pirates and the Rebels, as both their big-hitting number five’s clattered into the air fence in heat four. Both teams and fans waited apprehensively for the meeting to restart after Brady Kurtz and Jack Holder were escorted to hospital and took no further part in the meeting. But, a spark of action saw the meeting alight again as the tapes went up for heat five. The two teams were inseparable, continuously throwing heat advantages towards each other- many shared heats too. Who would’ve guessed that on aggregate it would come down to a last heat decider? Chris Harris and Nicolai Klindt needed a heat advantage against 2017 World Champion, Jason Doyle, and his teammate, Richard Lawson, to take their Pirate Ship into the final. "Bomber" dive bombed Doyle on the last bend, while Klindt held third to secure the win on the line. A heat that is in indescribable and could only ever be watched, taking the team to a 91-89 win.
The first leg of the Grand Final takes place at Wimbourne Road, with Kings Lynn taking the second leg at the Adrian Flux Arena.
