Jonathan Rea does the double for the third consecutive round of the World Superbike Championship in Portimao.

Welshman, Chaz Davies, got the holeshot from pole position and held off the pack for the first few laps. However, like many predicted, Rea’s dominance shone as he carved his way through the field and was on Davies’ tail by the end of lap three.

The battle between the two title rivals was probably tougher than both wounded Davies and Northern Irishman, Rea, had hoped for. The Aruba Ducati rider held his own despite the collarbone injury he sustained in the summer break, swapping and changing positions with Rea.

Eventually, Rea emerged at the front and left Davies in the realms of his teammate, Marco Melandri. As the two Aruba Ducati riders scrapped for second place, a mistake saw Pata Yamaha rider, Michael Van Der Mark, squeeze past the two.

Rea took the top step and edges closer to his fourth consecutive World Superbike title, followed by Michael Van Der Mark and Marco Melandri. Davies came across the line in fourth, while Sykes completed the top five.
