Marc Marquez wins the last lap battle to become victorious in the first ever Thailand GP.
Marquez got the holeshot from pole and led Valentino Rossi and Cal Crutchlow into the first corner. As Andrea Dovizioso joined the pack, “The Doctor” passed Marquez to take the lead. The sole Ducati rider pushed his way past the two Honda’s and sat hot on Rossi’s tail, eager to get through. Dovizioso stormed past his fellow Italian and pulled Spaniard, Marquez, through with him to sit first and second in the fast and fierce train.
The front three remained close together in front of Johan Zarco, Dani Pedrosa, Alex Rins and Maverick Viñales: the chasing pack. The man on the move was the "little samurai", setting fastest lap after fastest lap and pushing to catch the front runners. However, his large efforts pushed him into a race-ending mistake. Pedrosa dropped his Repsol Honda into the gravel at turn 5 and saw the chance of his first podium this season slip away in an instance.
With Dani Pedrosa out of the way, Viñales and Zarco could smell the rostrum before them. Viñales dropped Zarco and triumphed towards the leading trio, seeing his teammate, Rossi, fall into his relms. Viñales pushed past the “GOAT” and sat firmly behind the Ducati and the Honda.
Ducati vs Honda part 5. Dovizioso and Marquez swapped positions for the remaining few laps and arguably both showed their hand too early, but, they continued to battle at every corner possible. Sat in the best seat in the house was Maverick Viñales, waiting for mistakes to create his fortune and watching all the tricks they both had up their sleeves. However, Marquez finally won the last lap duel between himself and "Dovi" in a dramatic and show-stopping manor.
Rossi came in fourth ahead of Zarco and Rins to make the best result for the Yamaha team since Sachsenring.
