NUMBER 7 FOR BAUTISTA IN ARAGON
Alvaro Bautista makes it seven in the first race of the Aragon World Superbike round, as he beats Jonathan Rea and Chaz Davies to the chequered flag.
The race started with a bang, as the drama began as the lights went out. Rea, who started 10th on the grid, collided with Markus Reiterberger and caused a violent incident that sent the German tumbling across the start-finish straight. Meanwhile at the front, Bautista once again rocketed from the line to lead the whole race.
As Rea worked his way back through the field, he joined the busy fight for the remaining rostrum places with Davies, Alex Lowes, Eugene Laverty, Michael van der Mark, Tom Sykes and Sandro Cortese. Every opportunity saw a rider squeeze through the shutting door and swooping inside and out to make their way further towards the front. Eventually as the chequered flag approached, Davies, Rea and Laverty were the three who emerged from the septet and looked as if they were going to cement the top four.
However, on the final lap, as Rea led the group, Davies and Laverty were left scrapping for third before the contact between the two at turn 14 which left Laverty picking his bike up out of the gravel, promoting Alex Lowes to fourth. BMW rider, Sykes, picked off van der Mark and Cortese to take a resurgent fifth.
