MADSEN'S ROAD TO BECOMING EUROPEAN CHAMPION
Denmark’s Leon Madsen is crowned the 2018 Speedway European Champion at the Slaski Stadium, Chorzow.
Madsen’s year started in Gniezno with only eight points and finished ninth, leaving himself a big job to do if he was to claim the crown later on in the year in the remaining three rounds.
However, the Dane’s championship turned around when they arrived in Gustrow in July. Despite him not actually winning the meeting, Madsen did manage to equally score fourteen points with the winner of the meeting, Robert Lambert. After two rounds, the number 66 rocketed from ninth to second in the standings, trailing shortly behind Jaroslaw Hampel.
As the series invaded Latvia, masterful Madsen managed to take his first round win of the year, scoring sixteen points ahead of Grand Prix rider and former European Champion, Emil Sayfutdinov, and current British Champion, Lambert.
Finally, as the European Championships graced the Slaski Stadium, Madsen was crowned the 2018 European Champion as he continued to win the meeting with a maximum on the night.
