BAUTISTA'S TRIPLE TRIUMPH
Taking the triple, Alvaro Bautista took to the top box again in Australia, leaving down under with maximum points and sitting at the top of the standings.
Ducati’s Spaniard shot from the line into the first corner and pulled away instantly, seeing off the competition up until the chequered flag with a lead of 12.1 seconds. However, the battle behind was far from boring.
KRT teammates, Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam, were going at it for second place over the full course of the race, squabbling for the runners-up spot. The 2018 BSB champion showed his talent as he led record-breaker Rea for the majority of the race, even closing up the gap to Bautista at one point. But the Australian sun and heat became too much for his Pirelli tyres as he fell back into the hands of Rea, leaving him to settle for his second third position of the weekend.
Michael Van der Mark took the title of top Yamaha over Alex Lowes and Marco Melandri, who managed to complete the top six.
