BAUTISTA MAKES IT FOUR
Spanish rocket, Alvaro Bautista, makes it four out of four in his debut World Superbike season, as he beats Jonathan Rea in a hard-fought battle at the Chang International Circuit.
Although Bautista was the quickest off the line as the lights went out, a mistake in the first sector saw Rea take advantage and swoop into the lead. But the Spaniard didn’t slip away that easy and latched onto the Northern Irishman’s tail, creating a leading duo.
Alex Lowes led the chasing pack with his teammate, Michael Van der Mark, and fellow Englishman, Leon Haslam, who were dicing for the final podium place. Meanwhile, out front, the Ducati rider bolted past Rea with the turbo speed of the V4 and made a move going in to turn 3. However, Bautista ran wide off the line, yet still tried to make the apex, yet, Rea squeezed his Kawasaki through the gap and made significant contact with the Spaniard, promoting Lowes to second.
From then on, the battle was on with Bautista setting his eye on Rea from back in third. He triumphed past Lowes and pushed his V4 to the limit to catch the four time World Champion to finish what was started. Alvaro eventually made a move on Rea and saw him off to take the chequered flag first.
Alex Lowes held off the competition to take his first rostrum of the season, with Van der Mark and Haslam completing the top five.
